The Homecoming edition of The Greatest Rivalry on Earth will play at various locations in Chapel Hill, Oct. 25-27. Event details below:

Friday, Oct. 25

5–7 p.m.
Summer Bridge Alumni Reception, Sheraton Imperial Hotel, 4700 Emperor Blvd, Durham

Join us for a reception celebrating 39 years of Summer Bridge. In addition to reminiscing and hearing current program updates, we’ll begin early volunteer recruitment for our 40th anniversary in 2020. Cash bar and light refreshments. No fee to attend. Registration is recommended.

5–8 p.m.
Ticket and Apparel Pick Up, George Watts Hill Alumni Center Lobby

Visit us at the Alumni Center to pick up your VIP pass that serves as your name tag and event tickets – Bell Tower Tailgate, Bell Tower Bash and Sunday Serenade Brunch – all in one. This will also be your pick-up spot for apparel. Your football tickets will be emailed.

Young Alumni Mixer, Top of the Hill’s Back Bar
Complimentary event

Guest starring the classes of ’19, ’14 and ’09, with supporting casts from ’10-’18. Return home, and get ready to party with us on Franklin Street. DJ, cash bar and an epic atmosphere, you don’t want to miss this. Check in from 9 – 11 p.m. to pick up your official class button. Buttons will also be available at Saturday Homecoming events, while quantities last.

Calling these class anniversary cast members: ’74, ’79, ’84, ’89, ’94, ’99 and ’04. Meet up with us at this iconic spot as we catch up over Blue Cups and live music on Franklin Street. Check in from 9 – 11 p.m. to pick up your official class button. Buttons will also be available at Saturday Homecoming events, while quantities last.

Didn’t pick up your registration packet on Friday? Bell Tower Climb and Tar Heel Town, Bell Tower, Polk Place

The Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower is one of Carolina’s most beloved campus landmarks. All are invited to make the climb. Then head to Tar Heel Town which includes our complimentary face painting and your chance at a photo with Rameses.

Bell Tower Tailgate, Bell Tower

Meet us beneath the Bell Tower for one epic tailgate. Menu includes: chopped pork barbecue, fried chicken, fried fish, baked beans, greens beans, coleslaw, salad, hush puppies, sweet tea, lemonade and dessert. Vegan/vegetarian options will ONLY be available for registrants who indicate this preference on the dietary restriction section of the online registration form.

Two (2) beer tickets included (thanks to alumni-owned Big Boss Brewing) for each adult, 21 and over, who purchases a tailgate ticket (not included with the Jr. Tar Heel or Toddler Tar Heel tailgate tickets, and yes, we have to say that!). Price: $30; GAA member and Jr. Tar Heel (ages 5-12) price: $15; Toddler Tar Heels are free.  ID will be required for beer service.

To redeem your tailgate beer tickets, bring your driver’s license and check in at the ID table to get the wristband that validates your beer tickets.

Carolina vs. Duke Football Game, Kenan Stadium – SOLD OUT
Wear your Carolina blue, and get ready to cheer on the Heels. Game tickets are just $25 in the Homecoming block (what a deal!).

Class of ’94 25th Anniversary: On-field Recognition, Kenan Stadium

The class of ’94 will be recognized on the field during the Homecoming football game. Check back here for when/where details. Please note, participants must have a game ticket for field access. Guests (who are not members of the class) and children will not be allowed on the field.

Bell Tower Bash

Win or lose – we still party. Celebrate the Greatest Rivalry on Earth right after the game at this two-hour, family-friendly bash at the Bell Tower. Featuring a DJ, gourmet popcorn bar, sweet treats and lawn games. Lemonade, water and two (2) beer tickets (thanks to alumni-owned Big Boss Brewing) for each adult, 21 and over, who purchases a ticket. Price: $15; GAA member and Jr. Tar Heel (ages 5-12) price: $5; Toddler Tar Heels are free.

Sunday, Oct. 27

11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Project Uplift 50th Anniversary Brunch, Sheraton Imperial (I-40, Page Road/Exit 282)

You are invited to join the Project Uplift 50th Celebration Planning Committee as we celebrate fifty years of opening access, building community, and transforming the landscape of higher education. This event will provide attendees with an opportunity to reflect on Project Uplift’s past while also learning about what’s in store for the next generation of Project Uplift alumni. Price: $45; GAA member price: $30; Jr. Tar Heel (ages 5-12) price: $25; Toddler Tar Heels are free and no registration is required. 

11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Sunday Serenade Brunch, La Residence

Meet up with classmates at La Residence for a Sunday Serenade Brunch featuring the Loreleis, the Clef Hangers and Tar Heel Voices. A perfect Tar Heel send off after the Greatest Rivalry on Earth. Brunch menu features chicken and waffles along with other Tar Heel favorites (coffee, tea and juice included). Cash bar includes wine, mimosas and Bloody Marys. Price: $35; GAA member and Jr. Tar Heel (ages 5-12) price: $20; Toddler Tar Heels are free.

  • Join us for a continental breakfast before we cheer on the Tar Heels during Carolina’s Homecoming football game against Duke! Reconnect with old friends, engage with current students, and network with fellow alumni.  No charge, but registration will be appreciated.  Click here to register.
